BELGRADE, May 15. /TASS/.  Moscow is concerned about the activity of the Islamic State (IS) militants in Kosovo and some areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

“We are very concerned about the situation in Kosovo and several areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Lavrov said. “The Islamic State is showing its activity in this region,” he said.

Lavrov noted that the IS militant group continues recruiting young people there for taking part in the terrorist activity.

Russia urges EU to pay attention to terrorist manifestations in Balkans

“We would like the OSCE to play an active role in the Balkans,” Lavrov noted. “We are very much concerned about the latest developments in Macedonia, and the situation in Kosovo does not give grounds for optimism either.

We are disturbed by the statement of Albania’s leadership about creating the Albanian state on the base of the concept of Greater Albania. This runs counter to all fundamental principles of the OSCE and the agreements on resolving the Balkan crisis reached in previous years.”

“We urge the European Union through its presence in the Balkans to pay more attention to these rather alarming manifestations, especially the ones with a distinct terrorist context , which we see in various parts of the Balkan region, including recently in Macedonia,” Russia’s top diplomat added.
