Local law enforcement agencies prefer hiring veterans

President Donald Trump signed a bill earlier this week to help veterans looking for work after crossing over the military-civilian threshold and searching for a place to land.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) drafted what would become the American Law Enforcement Heroes Act last year. It was passed by the Senate and House in May. The legislation prioritizes U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant applications of state and local law enforcement agencies that use that funding to hire military veterans.
“This law will support our military veterans’ transition to civilian life and help the folks charged with protecting our communities,” Cornyn said in a release. “By prioritizing existing federal funding, our state and local law enforcement partners will get the highly trained individuals they need to keep our communities safe, while giving our veterans an opportunity to continue serving their country.”
