Will Help Veterans Transition Back to Families and The Community

Los Angeles, CA – New Directions, Inc. a nonprofit agency that assists homeless veterans, and the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce are proud to announce Walk for Warriors, a 5K walk/run to be held on Memorial Day, May 30th 2011 at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs campus.   The event honors those who have served and those who are currently serving in the Armed Forces.  Proceeds will benefit veterans who receive services from New Directions as they transition back to families and community.

“When veterans come home, they need to feel and see the support of their communities.  This Walk is one way to show our veterans that we care and that we support them,” says Executive Director Toni Reinis.  The event will be held on the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs campus, where New Directions’ main facility is located.

The 5K run will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K walk following at 9 a.m.  An Expo Festival will be held in conjunction with the walk where several local businesses will have booths.

“It has been a core value of the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce to work directly with important local non-profit organizations in the heart of our community; especially those that serve the men and women in uniform that protect our nation.  We are very excited to work with New Directions to raise awareness and necessary funds for their important community work through Walk for Warriors,” said Ronald Adams, President of the West LA Chamber of Commerce.

A family friendly event, the agency welcomes family members to come out and walk in honor of the veteran in their lives. To support or register for the Walk please visit www.walkforwarriors.org.  You can join or sponsor a team even if you can’t physically participate on May 30.
