Immigration is considered an issue of national security in the United States. This became the general consensus and a huge topic of conversation following the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11 in which more than 2,600 people died. While there was a lot of emphasis on the lost lives of American citizens, there was no coverage on the undocumented workers who also died on 9/11. Their names were not listed on any memorial or obituary. The sadness and grief of this horrific event caused a great deal of anti-Muslim and anti-middle eastern sentiments, and those sentiments were mixed-in with anti-immigrant views
