Boiling Frogs Beltway Buzz: DHS-TSA Terror Watch List Includes Dead & Long-Dead US Citizens

14
In May 2009 the Inspector General of the Justice Department found that 35% of the nominations to the Department of Homeland Security’s Terror Watch Lists were outdated, many people were not removed in a timely manner, and tens of thousands of names were placed on the list without predicate. A September 2009 report by the Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security found that the process for clearing innocent travelers from the list is a complete mess. Although significant, both reports failed to mention their findings on the number of names of already-dead US citizens who seem to be stuck there permanently.

From Combat to the Classroom

1
The transition might not be going as smoothly as it could -- or should. That’s the findings of a new study of 11,000 veterans. We’re breaking down the research from The Washington Post, Inside Higher Ed, Army Times and Marketwire. First to the study, done by The National Survey of Student Engagement. It interviewed thousands of veterans who were either first-year or senior students at four-year schools. The survey showed veterans were less likely to participate in study abroad programs or interact with professors and fellow students. The Student Veterans of America’s Michael Dakduk tells the Washington Post, some of the blame falls on universities.

ROBERT FISK : AN AMERICAN BRIBE THAT STINKS OF APPEASEMENT

6
In any other country, the current American bribe to Israel, and the latter's reluctance to accept it, in return for even a temporary end to the theft of somebody else's property would be regarded as preposterous. Three billion dollars' worth of fighter bombers in return for a temporary freeze in West Bank colonisation for a mere 90 days? Not including East Jerusalem – so goodbye to the last chance of the east of the holy city for a Palestinian capital – and, if Benjamin Netanyahu so wishes, a rip-roaring continuation of settlement on Arab land. In the ordinary sane world in which we think we live, there is only one word for Barack Obama's offer: appeasement. Usually, our lords and masters use that word with disdain and disgust.
