Chicken Hawks, Carry Home My Seabag, The Heavy One
Thousands of our kids are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan carrying the enormous weight of the emotional baggage picked up during their experience of war. This is nothing new, we brought back the same cargo from Vietnam, Korea and WW2. All wars provide their participants with a dismal tide of dark memories, the material of a lifetime of tortured nightmares.

GORDON DUFF: WHY AMERICA MUST HAVE AN ANTI-WAR UPRISING
I am not against war. I am a combat Vietnam Veteran. I know war. Lives were stolen in Vietnam and we are doing again every day, maybe not in same numbers but the lessons of Vietnam have more than been forgotten. The brightest time in American history, another "greatest generation" may well have been the one that stopped an evil and corrupt war. That generation saw the cost. Only the young, the young and the parents of those the war destroyed knew Vietnam. America simply turned away, a nation of, do we call them, do we call us, cowards? Is there another term?

The Candidate and the War
The Times reported last week that Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, the bright hope of Democrats to retain a critical seat in the United States Senate, has sometimes falsely claimed to be a Vietnam veteran. Predictably, in an election year with control of Congress in play, the report sparked plenty of outrage — much of it directed at The Times.
More Blumenthal Claims of Vietnam Service Emerge
Broader newspaper archival searches have continued to turn up claims by Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut that he was a Vietnam War veteran, even though he did not serve in the war. The most recent claim unearthed was in a report published in The Milford Mirror, a weekly, describing an appearance he made at a May 2007 Memorial Day parade in Milford, Conn., attended by local officials, military people and the relatives of a local man killed while serving in Iraq.

Remembrances Honor Fallen on Memorial Day

The Last Full Measure
Shell shock, battle fatigue, operational exhaustion, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are all reiterations of the same condition which has been scientifically recognized since World War I. The issue itself may not be new, but we are only now realizing the extent of its influence. A recent explosion of such cases has many worried that not enough resources exist to help the returning heroes.

Peter, Paul and Missing Mary Travers
I was watching some of the news coverage on the 35th Anniversary of the fall of Saigon, which marked the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Ironically, I was changing channels when I saw footage of the American folk trio, Peter, Paul and Mary singing one of their biggest hit songs "Leaving On a Jet Plane" written by another great singer-songwriter, John Denver. It was a No. 1 song for the group in 1969, even though many other music artists had previously recorded their versions of it.

Spirited debate about the Vietnam War and its legacy lives on at Kent State University.
War veteran and anti-war activist Country Joe McDonald screened two short documentary-style films about the war's impact at a gathering Sunday.
The reaction to the movies at Kent State -- where the impact of that war may have been felt more than anywhere else -- was divided and passionate.

Exhibit reflects Camp Pendleton’s role as refuge for Vietnamese
The largest U.S. camp to temporarily house Southeast Asian refugees was at Camp Pendleton, which 50,000 refugees, mostly Vietnamese, passed through. The camp would eventually reshape Southern California. Many refugees stayed for the warm weather they were accustomed to in Vietnam. In central Orange County, refugees found cheap housing and plentiful jobs in Westminster, where they erected Vietnamese businesses along the strawberry and bean fields, drawing Vietnamese scattered in other states.
