The United States Conference of Mayors, representing 1,200 cities with populations over 30,000, voted in their June 20 plenary session to call on the federal government to end America’s wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and redirect that military spending to home land priorities.

Republican representative Dana Rohrabacher asked Iraqis to pay for the destruction, invasion, and occupation of Iraq. f the law and legal precedent mean anything, it is the US that should pay reparations to Iraq.

There are many available programs for transitioning disabled veteran, from both the public and private sectors; they will not be forgotten.

The day was downcast, but the wonderful high school seniors from Brooklyn Collaborative School standing in the rain on Fifth Avenue were not. You could say they were upcast.

Both the methods and propaganda of the GOP are not only un-American, but right out of the Nazi playbook. That, in turn, would allow them to get on with the business of totally enslaving the American people. So they routinely employ tactics from right out of Joseph Gobbels’ handbook on the effective use of propaganda to keep us so angry and divided that we’re blind to their concerted effort to keep America ignorant, distracted, and miserable.

April 9, 2011 -- Few people have heard of the Battle of Baghdad, which ended eight years ago today, let alone its cover-up. They might remember Iraq's information minister, Mohammad Saeed al-Sahhaf, warning of a surprise awaiting invading U.S. troops if they attacked Saddam International Airport. Later, al-Sahhaf claimed that the Iraqi Republican Guard had slaughtered U.S. troops, and was in control of the entire facility. His claims were mostly true, but were effectively countered by a U.S. military-media campaign of evasions and distortions that switched the subject from the airport action to Private Jessica Lynch, while ridiculing al-Sahhaf as Baghdad Bob.

We were not asked to sacrifice anything. Not our money. Not our time to pay attention and not even asked to sacrifice our prayers. The general public was told to go shopping and the rich, well, they were told to keep more of their money and do whatever they wanted with it. War was important enough to start but not enough to fund.

Controversy over American military efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan is common. America has been at war for over ten years. Children of troops that fought America’s enemies in the first days of the war on terror are now fighting too. There is no end in sight. Very well intended people like to point out that The United States failed to comply with what has become to be called the “Powell Doctrine” after General Colin Powell.
