It’s Time For The Postmaster General to Go, and The Inspector General as Well

16
But there is an upside to the ledger. Postal employees don't have to beg for justice - they can demand it. They have both the law, and the numbers on their side. There are 600,000 postal employees in America, then when you add all of their family and friends, that's a formidable political group. In addition, in today's political environment up to 76% of the American people are unhappy with incumbents. So postal employees can very easily pull together to make a politician's willingness to fight for workers' rights a litmus test in order to be elected - and that goes for your union officials as well.

Get Guv’ment off our backs … but not yet

It's fashionable to be mad at the government these days, but many folks are unclear about how to join the movement. The first step is to master the idiom of outrage. It's not just government, it's Big Government. Or even better: Big Guv'ment.

Rep. Alan Grayson Introduces the “War Is Making You Poor” Act

4
The bill would cut the DoD's budget and use that money to make the first $35,000 each American earns tax-free. Last week, as Congress prepared to pass yet another “emergency” spending bill to cover America’s costly operations in Iraq and Afghanistan -- to the tune of $159 billion this time around -- Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida, introduced a bill that would force the Pentagon to pick up the tab out of its ample regular budget.

Is the “Times Square Terrorist” an Asset of Organized Crime?

36
Imagine if the intelligence that induced the U.S. to war in Iraq was proven "fixed" around a preset goal. What if the common source of that treachery is poised to become transparent? If you were complicit in a deception of that magnitude—a clear act of treason—how would you obscure the facts?

Oil spewing from BP's ruptured undersea well in the Gulf of Mexico has now reached the US coast, choking marshlands and fragile marine life. Amid the massive mop-up operation, Al Jazeera's John Terrett takes a boat ride around southern Louisiana's coast. The thick slick is already causing the local economy and the environment massive damage, but many fear the worst is yet to come.

The Candidate and the War

0
The Times reported last week that Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, the bright hope of Democrats to retain a critical seat in the United States Senate, has sometimes falsely claimed to be a Vietnam veteran. Predictably, in an election year with control of Congress in play, the report sparked plenty of outrage — much of it directed at The Times.

The Most Dreaded Enemy of Liberty

9
Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people. . . . [There is also an] inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and . . . degeneracy of manners and of morals. . . . No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare. . . .

Gordon Duff: “Flintstone” Weapons And “Custer” Tactics Rake In Billions For War Profiteers

53
A recent analyis has shown the 40 year old American M-16 rifle to be a failure in Afghanistan. The weapon that caused more American deaths in Vietnam than the enemy is still junk technology today, even with its Star Wars derivitives. The result is still "Palinesque" or as I would call it, "lipstick on a pig." The wrong design, the wrong cartridge, no range, no stopping power and poor reliability, 40 years of failure in the most important area of the battlefield, our combat rifle. This wasn't an accident but part of our defense tradition, fighting wars with junk, fighting wars meant to eat money, put fighting men and women under the dirt, fighting wars meant to go on forever, as long as the money flows. A new study, over 40 years late, challenges our basic infantry weapon's effectiveness:

New Rule: The Republican Leadership in America Must Produce Their Birth Certificates

More Blumenthal Claims of Vietnam Service Emerge

4
Broader newspaper archival searches have continued to turn up claims by Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut that he was a Vietnam War veteran, even though he did not serve in the war. The most recent claim unearthed was in a report published in The Milford Mirror, a weekly, describing an appearance he made at a May 2007 Memorial Day parade in Milford, Conn., attended by local officials, military people and the relatives of a local man killed while serving in Iraq.

Did you know “old is the new green”? Re-using historic buildings is a sustainable practice – in fact, it’s the ultimate in recycling. As good stewards of its resources, both man-made and natural, the Office of Asset Enterprise Management has successfully “recycled” a number of historic buildings the VA no longer needs. Through Enhanced Use Leases (EUL), VA transfers underutilized space and maintenance responsibilities to public or private-sector entities, saving both money and energy.
